Veterinary dentistry seminars

DaCross Services runs interactive seminars for veterinary dental trainees 3-6 times a year. These are intended for small groups (5 to 10) of interested veterinary surgeons. Participants in these seminars are each expected to make a short presentation on a predetermined subject or give a case report for discussion. Seminars are announced on the eurovetdent-t e-mail discussion group

Eurovetdent-t e-mail study group

This e-mail study group has been set up to assist veterinary dental trainees in European. Membership is restricted to EVDC trainees and others undertaking advanced level training in veterinary dentistry and related subjects. Any European veterinary surgeon interested in joining the group should e-mail their details to studygroup@DaCross.Com requesting that they be allowed to join the group.

The study group is a low volume maillist where those interested in learning more about veterinary dentistry and oral surgery can study cases and discuss clinical problems. At intervals the group managers will submit items such as case reports, digital photographs and radiographs for discussion by the group to supplement the members' contributions.

EVDC trainee supervision

Those undertaking approved specialist training programmes have to spend time observing and working with College Diplomates in their field. David Crossley is able to offer a limited number of placements to those with approved EVDC training programmes allowing them the opportunity to gain supervised experience and training working in the field of veterinary dentistry and orofacial surgery.

The standard fee for trainees attending for periods of up to a month is 100 Euro per working day, plus the cost of any materials etc. used during training exercises. In addition, trainees also have to arrange and pay for their own travel, food and accomodation.

It is hoped that it will eventually be possible to offer full time EVDC residency programme.

In-house training in veterinary dentistry

DaCross Services offer flexible in-practice veterinary dental training sessions for veterinary surgeons and nurses.

The recommended format for in-practice training of both lay staff and veterinary surgeons is a combination of a two hour evening lecture/discussion session followed the next day by a half day of practical dentistry assessing and treating animals under appropriate supervision. It will be necessary to arrange for three or four dogs or cats that require routine periodontal therapy and extractions to be available.

To keep costs to a minimum and maximise benefits it is recommended that all practice staff attend the lectures but that a maximum of six are involved in the clinical session.

The format and content of training sessions is adapted to suite the range of training and experience of those involved and the equipment available within the practice. It is important that suitable, modern equipment is available to enable a high standard of dentistry to be performed.
